Hungry? We can help...
Do you have enough food to eat when you need it? Are you a single parent who could use the extra help? Maybe a grandparent who is struggling with the increased cost of groceries? If this resembles your situation Mountain Backpacks can help. We provide food assistance to your student and any child living in your home. The only qualification is hunger. A parent, student or staff member can request help with food anytime throughout the school year. We ask for contact information but it is not required. We have four avenues for keeping kids full. 1) Weekend meals 2)Snacks 3) Groceries 4) Food pantries.

Mountain Backpacks is a supplemental food program whose mission is to help kids stay full and focused throughout the school year. We do this through the power of volunteerism and community support. We are a service project of the Evergreen Rotary Foundation and Evergreen Lutheran Church and a proud partner of the Food Bank of the Rockies. We work closely with and have been mentored by Evergreen Christian Outreach since we began in 2013. From our home base in Evergreen we also support children living in Clear Creek and Gilpin County. We were started by Evergreen residents Shelley Harmon and Janet Anderson with the intent of helping children eat and learn how to give back. Currently we have student volunteers from National Charity League, National Honor Society, Scouts of America and Interact who help us hold food drives and pack our backpacks.
Turn your enrollment form into your school office or email Shelley Harmon at to get started.
